It turns out my windows 7 install was deeply in love with my ancient AMD motherboard. My punishment for seperating them forever was a clean install, which meant the nuking of my primary drive and all my steam games if I wanted a fuctioning PC back.

Spiderman had something to do with this. I feel it in my gut.

Steam games can be redownloaded. I use the steam cloud to save my files and then I also make duplicates of my save files. I always have backups or cloud saves of my important stuff or photos so if something happens a clean install isn’t the end all.

As I said in my other post to you. Loading a HDD with drivers installed for other devices is going to cause you massive headaches every time.

You didn’t have to nuke your HDD. All you had to do was partition it and then load a clean copy of windows on the partitioned version then copy your files over.

I straight up run most of my games of an external usb 3.0 hard drive. Installing all of my games is as simple as connecting the drive and then telling steam that there is an install directory on that drive. 500GB of games installed in under a minute.

You need 30GB of free space to install windows 7. I had 10. That wasnt going to work.

It’s 20, but I see. I would have bought a new hard drive. They’re insanly cheap. But live and learn.

No, its 30. “Windows recommends 30,000 MB of space free for installation.” Was the warning I got when I tried to do it with just 10.

No idea where you’re getting this 30 number from..

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7…

3rd one down: “16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)“

I’m getting it from the installer itself, which is what it ask me. Maybe you can show the link to my win 7 install disc and it will kindly reduce the amount of space it asked for.

There is a way, but you already did it, so it is pointless.
